Impermeable fencing:

run-off protection for environmentally sensitive areas

At Advanced Environmental Services, we have created a state-of-the-art environmental protection system known as impermeable fencing, which has been purpose-designed to provide run-off protection for environmentally sensitive areas and mitigate the risk of potentially harmful contaminants compromising native ecosystems.

This innovative solution was first pioneered during a major infrastructure project for W2B, where our impermeable fencing product was introduced as a solution for protecting the surrounding marshlands and water-bodies. Our installation was able to create a fixed run-off protection barrier that successfully contained the acid sulphate soils and other contaminants that became mobilised in rainwater run-off during the course of construction.

Impermeable fencing installation

In order to provide the fast and efficient installation of our impermeable fencing systems, we have created the IF Plough, which is an in-house designed ground engagement tool that can embed the 1000-micron HDPE membrane into ground or substrate at speed and to a depth of 300mm. As a result, we avoid washout or scarping during high volume rain events.

Impermeable fencing also lends itself as a form of temporary fauna fencing and has been used for crab containment. You can view the installation of this crab fencing in the video above.

This particular application and its installation was developed by our team for the QLD Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to stem the spread of white spot disease from the Logan River into local prawn farms. Tight timelines and environmental pressures became the instigation for this devastating outbreak and resulting damages to the prawn industry in Queensland.
